kohler generator 10 hp --fuel pump failes but tank is on top so ran line direct, but it starves a little at times is line to small ? tank filter is ok ,i did add in line is that too much resist?

It would help if you would tell us which Kohler engine is on it. Some carburetors made for use with fuel pumps have restrictions in the inlet seat, the inlet hole is smaller because with the pump, the fuel is under a small amount of pressure. (A smaller hole equals smaller surface area for the float valve to have to seal against, or hold back.) When ran 'gravity flow', this can cause fuel starvation when the governor is calling for lots of fuel.

thankyou thats the issue i feel . I tried to get a new fuel pump but discontinued and the generic one sent me was jerry rigg install at best . So i asumed gravity flow ---yesterday I removed the strainer on the shut off, left in my installed 1 inch dia. in line filter and remodled the fuel line so the fuel filter is vertical (formerly on its side ) now I have a head of fuel to work with onder load as filter is 1/2 full all the time ,where formerly it would run way down to almost empty . Too much pressure drop with two filters ! So now it is better but still the same carb,---ty rjm
