Kroil vs. PB Blaster

Which is better for loosening up rusted frozen parts. I
received an offer to try Kroil. $17 seems expensive but if not
satisfied I don't have to pay.

I've used both. Can't say that one is any better than the other. If I have a rusted looks to be a fight bolt/nut, I'll just get it red hot with the oxy/accetalyn apply a bit of candle wax as it cools. Ofcourse for those hard to get at places, PB blaster is usually on the shelf. gobble

You know this is like asking whether John Deere is better than IH, or Ford vs Chevy, right? :D

With that said, I usually use Blaster--don't think I've ever tried Kroil. Gibbs was always pretty good too, but hard to find and expensive if you do.

Kroil gets my vote. To me it was worth the money especially in the places I can't use a torch. I spray it and let it work and keep spraying over a period of time and have had good luck on things I never thought would loosen up.

Another vote for Kroil.

I like it well enough to order it online and keep it in stock.

I used it all time when I ran shop, now not so much just because shop part trying to retire out of , I liked it but it does stink , but they all do usually

I spray with my mixture of diesel fuel-ATF. Give the tight a good pound with hammer if possible, more of my mix. Works for me

In my limited experience, penetrating oils are not worthy of the name unless you use heat, then they might (probably will) penetrate. Without heat I think you aren't going to get anywhere with anything seriously frozen.

If it is only slightly stuck, any brand of penetrating oil will work. If it is REALLY stuck, better get out the blue wrench.

We also use Zep products and have since 69 when we were given a can of Zep . and since then we have tried them all as at some point in time i have delt with every snake oil sales man that has come down the pike as a Mechanic or aws a parts manager or working for two different oil field companys and when the dust settles the Zep is the one that stays .

I?ve used both PB at home and Kroil through work. I?m still buying PB...

Have to agree with the other posters comment about the smell. One time the fan at back of the freezer in the fridge/freezer started squealing so I took it apart and put a drop of oil from the pump oiler on it. Fixed it for six months. Did it again, fixed it for 3 months. Next time couldn?t find the pump oiler, so sprayed a little PB. Lasted until the next meal when all you taste was PB! Bought new fridge and new food. Ooops. ;)

Kroil for me. The other combo I use is acetone and ATF. If I have some thing large that I need busted loose the acetone/ATF is the best just from the cost angle.

i'm with crazy on this one, i've never seen a seriously rusted bolt get any penetration with anything other then a torch..but it does make one feel good to squirt something on..

Picked up the little can of Kroil at the local flea market. Guy cleans out homes and this can had Never been opened. A true bargan at $2.oo. Have used it here and there on stuck bolts and a steering shaft on a lawn tractor. So far it has been stellar. I love the color of the can. Go buy a small can and try it. As others have said with something really stuck you will need the flame wrench. I vote for Kroil !!

There are a couple of youtube videos where they did reasonably thourough tests on Kroil and other penetrating oils. Kroil did not come out well in the tests. Line below to one of them.

This one is as good, maybe better, but the presenters style may offend some... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeTNXbDbHcM

Never tried Kroil, so cannot compare, however PB does everything I could ask; lubes, removes corrosion, prevents corrosion, lubes rubber parts, moisture-proofs, fixes electrical problems, repels moisture, lubes windows, makes elec switches work again, lubes key holes, I love it. Stinks, yes. Just don't use it indoors. Simple.

Kroil hands down. Use the other stuff on the easy ones, or throw it out.

Yes, it is a little spendy but cheap compared to something that does not work.

So if there is something I can say it like I mean it, this is it. :-)

I'm more partial to acetone and atf.

I have to admit I have not tried the acetone and atf combination. I certainly have tried a lot of others including a lot of PB Blaster because that seems to be recommended often.

I want to add using Kroil a couple of times does not tell the story. Some things still need heating. I have been using Kroil for years now and have gained a lot of confidence in it. It was first introduced to me by a tractor restoration speaker at the gathering of the green. He had good results in his tractor restoration business and I personally can see why he liked it after several years of use.

Stopped today at NAPA. Payed $17 for a 10oz, spray can. That little 8oz, can I bought at the flea market is around $15.oo. Just think, a gallon just hits $100.oo. The stuff really works quite well. With anything, if it is really stuck, time to grab a blue wrench.

Loctite makes a product called "Freeze/Release-sp?" that has refrigerant mixed into the penetrating oil and it has done a good job on certain fasteners on some of the diesels I work on.

I use a product called KnockerLoose which I think comes from the same people that make the PB stuff. Still using my first can of it so it apparently ain't don't take a lot to get it done. Boss at work gave it to me so I really can't argue with the price.

I will throw my favorite in the mix...

1) BG in-force
2) Castle Thrust

Both serve me well I think I have a can of every penetrate ever made My go to's are BG and Castle...

I vote for Kroil, all penetrants have an odor, but PB Blaster is one of the worst I've had the displeasure to smell. I use Kroil pretty regularly.

I was introduced to kroil at lyons salt, lyons kansas.they swear by it,i do too.my second choice is marvel mystery oil in a pump oil can.
Gunsmiths use kroil too.so do i on my firearms

The big secret to penetrating oil is giving it time to work a couple days with repeated soaking sometimes longer it?s not really magic although some cans claim their product is it?s a thin oil that needs time to work into the frozen part that?s where beating on the part a little will go a long ways

I spent most of my 40 years carrier wrenching and operating Aero Gas Turbines......
Kroil is the only penetrant that I'm familiar with.......100% satisfied...

All my hobby tractors receive KROIL when required.......

Kroil is pricy because it works. I save mine for really tough jobs and use PB most of the time. When I was working, the machine shop that supported my effort used it regularly...that's where I found out about it. It's online.

I got ya beat by 5 years none has me satisfied even KROIL.. Its not on my list never will be I did not find it special.. The same goes for PB... What I like about BG and castle they foam and stays put for awhile Even then I don't get paid to wait on a penetrate I give it its chance then its coming off one way are the other rat now...

I have done my own test and gave KROIL and PB a year of soaking they failed... All are a hope and a payer... Nuttin special about them other then the price...

Grease the threads before putting together and used oil with some diesel fuel. If not then the torch. Not waiting weeks to get it apart.
