Kubota M4900 shuttle shift issues

Hey guys,

I bought a Kubota M4900 cab tractor this fall at a local auction, my intentions are to leave it hooked up to my produce sprayer all summer ( finally in AC )

The immediate issue I know it has is, it can be difficult to get out of forward on the shifter. I hooked it up to an 8 foot pull type disc to see if it would pop out of gear or anything under load and it didn't which is a good start. If you move the shifter forward ( lightly ) and let the clutch out its not truly engaged, you have to give it a firm push to make sure its actually in gear. Once its in, it does not pop out. That issue seems like it could be resolved with shift linkage adjustment. The part of it being difficult to pull out of forward gear somewhat randomly is my cause of concern.

What are some of your experiences with this type of problem? I've read a good bit on synchronizers, just want to see if i could be missing something before diving into that.

I'd look the linkage over. M4900 are the synchronized shuttle and not hydraulic shuttle from what I remember.

I ran a synchro shuttle M9000 years ago that was somewhat fickle, the hole the shuttle lever came through the dash was worn oval shaped. You had to firmly shift it.

Many yrs ago I owned a M4900 with sync -shuttle. The synchronizers failed & tractor wouldn't shift into forward only shift into reverse.. Tractor had to be split & shuttle synchronizers replaced

I am wondering if you have 2 problems: synchro out of adjustment, but also a dragging (not fully releasing) clutch. Does the tractor try to move slightly when the clutch pedal is depressed? That would a clutch problem. Does it have a lot of free play? Mark.
