LA Case wheel problem

I have a 1950 LA Case and I'm having trouble getting the left hub off so i can check the brakes. I have a large gear puller in the center and a hydraulic jack on each side pushing and it will not move. I didn't have any trouble with the right side just tapped on it and it slid off. I would appreciate any ideas you guys might have on how to get this off. Thanks Chuck

I went through this with my 49 LA last year. First, loosen the set bolt and back off the bottom brake adjustments. After that, it will just take leaving pressure on it, squirting lube on the axle, and maybe adding some heat to the hub area. Since the wheel is cast, be careful not to put too much pressure on it with your hydraulic jacks or get it red hot in any one place. I had to let mine set for about 3 days with constant pressure before it finally popped loose.

yes these can be very tough to get off. I also like Alan went through this last year. I like you had one that just a light tap and it was off and the other one VERY tight. I made my own puller (can e-mail you pics of it if you like) I put an increadable amout of pressure on it and after trying about every kind of rust penitrent imagainable, heat, etc. I finally tried driving the tractor around with the puller on with a very large amount of pressure applied and the big castle nut on loosly. This finally poped it loose. If you do need to get into your master cyls or wheel cyls to replace them you may find that finding a parts store to look them up and find them could be a bit difficult. You gotta get an old guy that still knows how to use books and not just type #s in a computer. The master cyls and wheel cyls are still avalible through wagner as of last spring when I bought mine. Pricy though as they wheel cyls are 2" bore! I have the current part #s that I can give you. I also have part #s for the rebuild kits if you need to go that route. Hope this helps. I made a puller from a piece of 1" thick steel drilled to 3/4 holes and used two grade 5 or 8 3/4 bolts. Set the metal up against the axle with the nut backed off about one turn. Tighten bolt then hit around drum with a big sledge hammer. hit on the thick center of the drum its the strongest point. it will come loose eventually. Using hydraulics allows a certain amount of cushion by going right up against the axle and using the bolts to put pressure on it you will get a better result when hit by the hammer.
