LA clutch housing problem

I had someone working on my LA restoration for me a few years back. Still not restored because the work was awful. Flash forward to today and I am close to running it. The last big project was the clutch housing. I found the reason for the oil leaking was one of the bolts is stripped that holds on the rear cover. My question is could I use a helicoil in the cast and will this hold when I put some torque on it? I've never used these before but I also don't currently have the money to get a used clutch housing.

I agree a helicoil will work. If it's going into a blind hole you have to mind the tap type, tap depth and coil length; that's well-explained on the helicoil website and in the catalog.

Heli coils are made for just such things.

Sometimes depending on bolt size you can just as easily go up to the next bolt size.

This is what I was reading but was not sure. I tried to chase the threads with a tap and had some results. I have not yet tried to get a bolt tight in there though but was able to get it to bite. The wrong size bolts were used when this was put back together so my next stop is to get those and see what I get. I am hoping to not have to try the helicoil if I can help it since it is totally new to me.

Thanks Dave. I spent some time doing some reading on this last night and agree it will work. Going to try and get the right bolt and I cleaned up what was left of the threads with a tap and see where that gets me first.

On some of my drawbar frame bolts on A's and B's I have had to go to the next size or two larger bolts and retap the holes. Some I made a special stud for that was larger on one end then the other. I could screw the oversize end in the housing and epoxy it and still retain the original size nuts on the outside.
