LA fan hub

After doing a little research it seems nothing available from deere as far as parts go, so before I do something stupid, can some explain it?

I see a screw with a spring, assuming that is for oil. Also see what looks like a little cover, no idea what that's for. Stone have mentioned there is a sealed bearing in there, others says they can't get oil to stay in the hub, but if it's sealed, there would be no need for oil. An I missing something?

Photo to go with it. Extra thing is like a hinge since it has the two holes apart from each other. But they are very, very small holes.

A couple of companies made those fan hubs for Deere, IH, and various industrial engine builders.

They weren't a sealed assembly, they didn't use ball bearings, or even bushings, the "axle" and the surrounding hub were steel and the only thing that kept them from wearing/galling/seizing was a little engine oil stored in the hub and directed between the moving parts by a sort of helical "scoop".

I would ASSUME the procedure to oil the fan hub is n the LA OPs manual, I don't have one at hand, the link below shows how to fill an IH fan hub, I would expect the ones DEERE used are oiled in the same fashion.

Ooey goey, the good stuff I found instead de after a little help with it.

I assume that the little pipe should be clear and pointed up or does it matter? It will either point up with or down. I did find the little hole that would move oil to the center of the bushing. My guess is that the back oil seal will leak. Any good ideas on how to prevent that? It looks like a big washer is welded into the back of the hub.

Looks different than what they used on the M. It is just a machine screw plug. I unscrew it, turn it to the top and fill it up.

BTW, there's nothing sealed on an 80 year old tractor. Lol
