Land Pride paint

I have an older model Land Pride 35-90. It has never been left out over night or been wet. I bought this mower deck in the mid 90's and after using it just a
few times the paint on the flat areas of the deck began to flake off. When it was not even a year old it was beginning to get surface rust and look horrible.
I called Land Pride and a representative told me not to worry it was just a piece of farm machinery. Is this normal for Land Pride? I have never had another
piece of equipment lose paint like this. Ellis

Factory paint is put on fast with little to no surface preparation. Your unit is a prime example of the long term results and it's not just Land Pride.

That is because of improper preparation before painting and no primer being used. The powder coat is a miracle that don't stand up. Just enables the manufacturer to rush it out the door looking good for a short time. IMO

I have one of their rotary cutters that's about 10 years old and the deck is fine but I had to repaint the gearbox after only about three or four years. I keep it under a tarp.

Paint rarely flakes off, it normally wears off. Powder coat does very often flake off so most likely that is what you have. The manufacturers use powder coat in order to get out from under federal VOC regs.

My personal opinion is that the paint was applied over hot rolled steel without treating/removing the mill scale. Ellis

Yup, that sounds like powder coat coming off.

I have a 5ft. and a 6ft. Land Pride rotary cutters that live outside. They are both the kubota orange. The paint has faded a little but seems to have held up. I brought them both used and have had one about 6 years and the other 3 years.
