Last 01 series serial number

Does anyone know the last 01 (1962) series serial number? I recently purchased a 1962 801 series with serial number 167967. Just wondering how late of an 01 series my tractor is.

Hello Brian , Your serial number is late but not late enough. The Red and Gray 01 series tractors ended in June of 62 around 171,500. I have 170,028 and know where 171,406 is the highest serial number so far. Thanks Tony Jacobs

Hey Tony, Thanks for the quick response to my serial number question. Now that leads me to a follow up question regarding SOS trans. in 01 series versus SOS trans. in 2000/4000 4 cyl. tractors. Did FORD put any of the improved (2000/4000) SOS trans. in the late 01 series tractors? or were they installed at the exact time that the 2000/4000 4 cyl. tractors were built?

A quick way to tell (assuming the trans hasn't been switched) is to check for hash marks on the gear selector readout...these indicate the older trans.

Ford offered transmission upgrades to owners of the x01 S-O-S tractors afte the thousand series came out with their improved version of the S-O-S, but not everyone took advantage of the offer.

Hello Brian , The over running clutch transmissions casting number 312259 were in most 1962 red and gray tractors(including my serial number 170,028) but some did have the CONN7006B DIRECT CLUTCH TRANS. installed in them before the changeover to the blue paint and the C3NN7006B DIRECT DRIVE CLUTCH TRANS. I have one here at my shop the was in a Red and Gray diesel tractor but the serial number is not very legible, but it has the C0NN7006B casting number with a March or April of 1962 casting date on it . But I have no proof as in a Ford Service Bulletin with an Assembly Line Install date and a serial number break yet but who knows what be found in the future. Thanks Tony Jacobs
