Question for a rainy day.
Which company made the last threshing machine and what year? Also, which company built the first combine and what year?

One of first self propelled combiners was Berrys Combined Steam Traction Harvester by Stocton Berry in Lindsay CA in 1886. It burned straw for fuel.

i have a belle city here in the shed on factory rubber. pretty sure its an early 50's model. we last used it in 2000.

How long did Dion make threshers? Did they make it to 1960?

Mike
dion ? i also remember the GM dealer in town was the minnie and cockshut dealer. in the 1970's they had a brand new keck gonnerman sitting on the lot that never sold. the boss gave it to one of the mechanic's i worked beside. seams to me i remember it being on steel wheels.

My dad and uncle together purchased a new Case thresher in what I can remember must have been in about '46 or so as I remember going to town with my dad and bringing it home behind the pickup truck. I'm now 84 YO and we had the thresher up until about 8 years ago when it was in the possession of my cousin, son of the uncle who purchased it together with my dad and he sold it about 10-12 years ago. My cousin may remember when they purchased it as he is 8 years older than me and I haven't seen him for a couple of years as he has been living in Hungary for about the past 10-12 years. It was on rubber, and I can remember that. I was around when they used it for threshing; mostly oats but I was only old enough to drive the tractor picking up bundles and doing a little of the shocking with my dad. The last I remember it being used was about 1956. Why didn't someone take pictures???

Pretty sure Dion kept them going until the late 50's or early 60's. They were known to be the Cadillac of threshers around here. There's a pair of brothers not far from me who buy, fix up, and sell threshers to the Amish/Mennonites. They sell them all over the US and Canada. Dion is by far their most preferred make. But McCormick and Case are up there too. I've been quite impressed with the build of my Goodison - seems to be much better built with more robust walkers & shoe than our McCormick.

Are there any George Whites left? The local show has one.

I know of one George White that was stored inside until two years ago when the farm was bought and the new owner converted the barn into an 'art studio'. They pulled the thresher out and it's been sitting outside ever since. Seemed a shame because it was always shedded and in great shape. But I couldn't justify asking after it: The two threshers we have are already two more than I need. And I think it was a pretty small one too - 22" cylinder or something like that. And an elevator for the clean grain - I prefer a blower.
