Late B Brake Bushing Inspection

I would like to inspect the two brake shaft bushings for wear. Seems obvious, but I assume I need to pull the whole assembly. In other words, I assume there is no easier way to check for play in the brake shaft. --Lee

I'd start by grabbing ahold of the drum and see how much you can move it up and down. Of coarse the inner bushing could still be shot I guess ? They would have to be really bad before I'd worry about them though.

just replaced some that were so bad the pinion gear was riding up on the bull gear.it was actually cheaper to buy a couple of used brake assembies on ebay than to buy the oem bushings. Bill

"just replaced some that were so bad the pinion gear was riding up on the bull gear". That is in fact what I am worried about. I am getting a lot of feedback in the pedal when using the brake to execute a sharp turn.
