The original subject was Late B hood changes?.
A little late to the game but I just got the report back on the JD B I'm working on. It has a warehouse date a week after yours and the only spot I can see where a decal is 1 1/2 from the front of the hood.
The hood is air chiseled around the muffler so I doubt the hood was ever changed since they were too lazy to remove it to replace the muffler. The Two Cylinder Club states 253024 as the last tractor built
under 1949. That means ours are within about the last 500 produced before they were marketed as 1950. The square tube was introduced at sn 248257 from what I heard, which is about 4000 tractors before ours. It
has been said that the decals moved when the axles changed but that would put it near the last 1/3 of the 1949 run (Which seems too early). There was an article in the Two Cylinder Club magazine about when the
move took place and the closest they could come up with was a picture from late summer 1949 where the decal was moved to the front. There is no know serial break for the change of the decal placement so the
only way to know for certain is to look for traces of where the decals were originally. 1950 seems to be an easy answer and agreed to be correct rather than maybe or we're not sure.
