Late G Question

Did the 12 volt ignition system on a G ever use a 6 volt coil and the dropping resistor? I assume if it did, there would be no bypass function during starting as is used on later model tractors.

The Parts Catalog and Electrical Systems Service Manual don't discuss this, at least not where I looked.

I don't know, but that doesn't ring a bell

Many of the older 12 Volt two cylinder Deeres THAT DID USE a 6 volt coil plus a ballast and ballast by pass did so using a saddle mouth mechanical push starter switch that had the extra small side terminal that was hot ONLY when depressed/cranking that connected to the coil thereby by passing the ballast.

My late G has 12 volt pos ground. The generator, regulator , coil and starter all have plates that say 12 volt or are stamped 12 volts. My uncle put in a 6 volt battery and ran it for a couple years but always started hard and didnt charge. I didnt discover the 6 volt battery until he passed away.

Did not know the G had anything like you describe. All I know is both the 50-51 AR and the 51 A both with distributor did not have anything like you are talking about. They both used 2 6 volt batteries on 12 volt systems.
