My Christmas present in 1946 was a new Schwinn bike, I have kept for 70 years, finally I got it totality restored for my Grandsons 10th Christmas. It took me three weeks.

my comment about me posting photos is this, I am one of the few who has no idea as how to post photos. My son has photos of the bike on his Facebook page,I have no idea as how to access that page. I am not sorry about my inability to post photos. Some old dogs just cant be trained.

If that picture titled "Dad and His Bike" is your restoration project, you did a splendid job on the restoration!

My dad had a black Schwinn from that era, but it had a "tank" with a battery powered horn. Us kids were not allowed to touch his bicycle (he called it a wheel) because he rode it three miles into town to work every day and he didn't want us hooligans wrecking his transportation. I would slyly press the horn button almost every evening, but the batteries were apparently removed because the horn never made a sound.

Schwinns were the Cadillac of that era!

Very sharp looking bike. I rode the wheels off from a couple back when I was a kid .One I rode was from my Dads uncle it is still around yet. I should fix it up to ride now days. It needs tires and probably some other things hanging in the shed for the last 40 years.

My BIL had my Dad's bike restored for my sister's Christmas Gift many years ago.
The old bikes have wooden wheels with the tires glued to the wood.
Her husband has restored a dozen bikes. Most bikes were made in the 1800s
