Beautiful work! My dad used to work with a little black walnut and it caused him some respiratory problems, need a good dust sucker and/or mask.

I turned a bowl a few years ago with end grain like that and despite the danger, I wore a heavy leather glove on my left hand to keep from burning my hand.

I can feel the hot shavings too but never burned my hand. There is every grain you can think of. I run the lathe as fast as I can which is over 2000 RPM. When the tool quits pulling shavings I touch it to the grinder again.
