LB/SB Topcut Tires

Ou club recently changed rules to allow Topcut tires. I have a very nice set of Firestone 151s that I have been running, and I do not want to Topcut them. I am looking at used tires that I can Topcut and have found a set of Goodyear LB/SB radials, if they were aggressively Topcut they would almost look like a V cut tire. I know that LB/SB tires are generally not well liked for numerous reasons, but has anyone tried them as a Topcut and what did you think?

You can run radials? Most places don't allow them. Don't think lb/sb are the way to go.

If you have a buddy that wins with them, go for it. But when the Stars align I have seen guys win with one half flat tire and another tire with 20 psi. And the gas shut off! Win

this is what is on mine and they suck they are at 10psi and still seem like they are aired up tight, but thats all i have so i think the radials are a disadvantage any way . i am going to top cut these just so i dont spinout before the chain is tight thats with 1000lbs. weights on the rear axle

They are probably to tall of a bar for pulling. My preference is shorter bars.

the bars are pretty tall but thier is zero give in the side walls i am afraid if i run any lower air i would spin the tube valve stem

Bite the bullet and top cut your tires, down to 5/8” . That is if you want to win. Or buy a set of Armstrong tires 30 degree and top cut them down to 5/8” or BFG’s

I'm late to the party here but, I don't know how much top cutting LB/SB will give you, but a full cut will make them pull a little better than without, but not as good as 23 deg on most tracks. Now if you have any gravel tracks, LB/SB will walk away from anything else.

is their any advantage to having radials because most places dont allow them
No there isn't. If you run low enough psi to get the footprint to lengthen out, you give up more in hitch height than you gain in footprint. At least that is my experience in old time slow pulling. If you can run 20 mph, probably a different story. Most places that outlawed radials did so just out of fear without ever trying it.

I have got the local clubs here to allow radials, just to open up the used tire supply. Its hard enough to find suitable tires for old tractors now, no sense eliminating the radials.
