leaking fluid

got a 53 farmall c, where the frontend bolts on to the rearend on bottom of houseing there is a hole about 1 inch big going straight up into the houseing. up in the hole is a hexhead bolt makes right angle back into trans. houseing. bolt looks to be 1/2 to 9/16th. hole isnt big enough to get wrench on bolt head. fliud seems to be leaking from threads of bolt. any "easy remedys"

If you're talking about the hole at the very rear of the torque tube/bell housing, behind the hole for the clutch linkage and just ahead of the transmissioin case . . .

You're probably seeing the lower of three bolts that secure the retainer for the input shaft bearing and seal. This is a common place for a leak. It would be the very devil to get to, if you could at all (theres a yoke on the front of that input shaft that's still in the way) and without splitting the tractor.Even if you could get to it from outside, just tightening that bolt won't help the leak any.

If the leak is bad enough, you'll have to split her to get the access to do anything.

thanks for the info, i surly didnt want to here the word "split" but it will save a lot of unnessary work in trying to fix something that is not fixable

Yep!

Mine leaks some, but not bad enough yet to go in and fix it.

If it's the same setup as the As and Bs, and I think it is, your driveshaft runs from the pilot bearing up front, through the clutch and throwout bearing, and ends in the front half of a yoke just in front of the tranny. The back half of the yoke is mounted to the transmission input shaft. That back half is a keyed press fit to the input shaft, so you have to get the front away to get a puller on it. Then you can remove the retainer and change out your seal and, I think but am not sure, the bearing (might as well while you're in there). You can get a new gasket to go between the retainer and the tranny case fom any CaseIH dealer.

I did change out the bearing and seal on my BN, but that was while it was all apart anyway. On a SuperC that's otherwise together, it's a pain in the neck for asll the stuff you'll have to disconnect to make the split, but if the leak is that bad, well . . .

Let us know if you do decide to go after it. I'll fill you in on how I'd go at it, and expect that others will chime in with their suggestions as well. It's perfectly do-able, just a lot of work. 8^(
