The fuel tank on my 88 diesel has developed pinhole leaks in the water trap of the tank. Anyone have any good ways to fix this?

i had a supper 88 with the same problem and cleand and soderd it with no problems the gas tank repar shop told me not to use a liner be caeus you cant get all of the oils out of the tank and it will fail

I took the tank out of a 880 and zip disced the rotten portion out of the tank. This allowed me to get inside with a wire wheel and properly clean the inside. Made up a new bottom section for tank. used a coupling for fuel outlet which I let stick up 3/4 inch inside tank so wouldnt pick up any dirt/water laying on the bottom. Put a larger coupling flush to the inside of tank and put a drain valve into it. then welded whole assembly onto tank. bit of work but at least I know its relativly clean.
P.S. make sure you use proper procedures for welding, cutting on fuel tank.

I haved used j b weld and has worked very well.drain and clean the area real good ,and wipe the area with laquer thinner(to remove any oil residue) and apply. good luck, stumper

we had the same situation with our Oliver 1800. To solve it we had the radiator shop cut off the water sump. If there is one pin hole there will be more in the furture.
