Leaky rear end

We just had the clutch replaced on the 9N as oil was leaking past the seals and got on the clutch. Well I didn't deal with the guy who did the work, my cousin did. Anyway it's leaking bad out of both seep holes. The one right in front of the drain plug under the shifter and the forward one near the clutch. I'm going to split it and redo all the seals because obviously the other guy didn't. What all seals should I do when in there? I've never split a tractor before so this will be all new to me. Also I got the tranny fluid check screw out and it has a 3-4 inch metal rod on it. I took it out fine but can't get it back in now. It's like it's hitting metal. Can someone help me on what's going on? Thanks as always.

"Also I got the tranny fluid check screw out and it has a 3-4 inch metal rod on it." You just thought that you did. Try reading the manual.

(quoted from post at 05:32:36 03/12/18) Let's say I don't have the manual. What did
I screw up?
How about a photo of the part you can't get back in. You said 9n but is it a three speed or 4 speed trans? you may get to take the top of the trans off. Before you take anything else off, I would highly recommend that you get a service manual. FO-4

I have that manual somewhere. Ill dig
through and find it. I don't have the
operators manual for it though. I thought
that small plug was the check level like my
Farmall and had pulled it out before but
now it won't go back in. I appreciate the
replies. And it's a 3 speed tranny.

I think you took the screw that holds pivot for the shifter rails to the side of tranny. Try using a punch to line em up. If that don't work take the top cover off.the tranny. Be carefull, there should be a little steel bb and a spring under the cover.in the back held down with the cover. Then arrange the tranny to neutral and replace.the screw.

You check all rear end fluids with a dip stick on back end think it is on the right side. Tranny, diddy and hydrolic all use one sump for fluid for all.

Hey Fullers, nice to see you posting on the Ford N forum.
I didn't know you owned an N series Ford.

As others have said, fluid level is checked with a dipstick
at your right heel when setting on the tractor.
Unless it is an early 9N with the dipstick by the shifter.

I'm not sure what you pulled out that had that rod on it.
Again, a picture would be great so we know how to help.

I think I have the manual you're looking for, email is open.

Mine has the hole for the dipstick by the
shifter. It has never had one in it to my
knowledge. Yeah, I know should fix that. I
plan to fix all the little things on it
this go around and have started quite the
list. Anyway, do you know what year the
break was for when the moved it. I believe
that it's a very early N but the serial
number is unreadable.

Let's call that punch a drift. It could help this to end a lot better.

(quoted from post at 07:45:21 03/13/18) I tried to draw where it's located. I will
be tearing into it later this week or next
weekend.

ome posters are mixing 9N and 8N transmissions here, so be aware. ANSWER: that is the pin which holds the reverse idler gear shaft in place. May need to go inside to re-align shaft pin hole for re-insertion unless as has been mentioned you can do it from outside with small drift. Would have to be close for that to work.
