After following the spark plug thread below I found out some DC's had thermostats, something I didn't think happened , my 49' DC has the 5414A elbow with no thermostat, would it be possible to machine this elbow for a thermostat? I use this tractor in the fall and winter to auger corn and using the shutters and covering the grill it is hard to get it up to a decent temperature.

Certainly you could do that, if you order a thermostat from John and cut or have cut a recess for it to drop into you will be fine. The stat goes up on the radiator side of the housing.

A salvage yard or someone with a parts tractor may have the right elbow.

Is the newer elbow that takes the thermostat a direct replacement? I might have one on one of the parts tractors. Mike

Yes ms, no mods needed, same elbow w a small cut for a thermostat to sit in.

Welcome to the Case forum. Thanks for sharing your experience with your DC and hope you can share more. A lot of members have a DC in their collections, me included, be it on the back burner for restoring. Any tricks that help the function of the tractor and yet retains originality are eagerly read.

As i remember those thermos for a vac are just held in place by 2 hose clamps. Guessing the diameter on DC might be too big to use a vac stat.

I read somewhere that a thermostat for a Chevrolet Citation works in a Case SC. There must be an automobile one out there that works in a DC.
