lift arm ends

hi everyone
looking for help for my neighbors tractor
he has a ford 4000,1963 or 64
he wanted to borrow my dearborn 2 bottom plow
i have a ford 2000,1967
his lift arms are alot bigger than mine
his lift arm balls cover the pin hole to where we can"t get the pin in
if i understand on his tractor, is called
weld on lift arm ends?
can these be replaced with smaller weld on ends with smaller lift arm balls in them
or is there another method someone might know
any education on this, iwould be most thankful for
shorthair

A 63,64 4 cylinder 4000 should have the same catagory 1 lift arms as your 2000. It wasn't untill the 65 and later 3 cyl 4000s that they went to cat 2 but even then you could change the balls from cat 1 to cat 2.

some old plows have very short pins on them so the ball will cover the clip holes...

or the tractor could have extra wide balls...

you did not say if the holes were too big, but that that balls were too wide.

solution is to replace the pins on the plow with longer pins.

The cat2 balls on my 1965+ 4000 are round with a cat2 hole through them. For picking up the cat1 stuff, I typically just add a bushing.

Recently helped a friend out and needed to hook up to his cat1 quick hitch, but my balls were too big  and wouldn't fit into the pocket of the quick hitch. Abandoned the quick hitch and tried to hook direct to his rake, but the pins were too short and the ball covered the hole for the clip.

Found a set of cat1 balls at TSC that aren't quite round.. more like a ball with the sides sliced off. Swapped those in my lift arms and now I can hook up to his quick hitch, his rake, or any of my cat1 stuff without the bushings.

Not sure if your lift arms have the ability to swap out the balls or not. If his ends are really welded on, as Bill said, your only solution is probably longer pins or maybe a quick hitch between the tractor and the implement.

A 63/64 4000 did not have interchangeable Cat1/Cat2 balls from the factory. You need to post a photo.

Since you say you have a 3 cykinder 2000 I assume you know the difference between the early and late 4000s. But just to be sure...
First pic is of a pre 65 4000.
Second one is of a post 65 4000.

thank you,
it is a pre 65 for sure
i think someone before he had the tractor
changed the lift arms
because on the end of his lift arms, the lift arm balls are setting in a (approx)3" tall x 1.5"thick x 8"long steel plate, which has a pin holding it in (it looks like the plate slides in and out)
i will try to get a picture tomorrow

You are describing the '65 and later "Flexible Link Ends". They have the interchangeable Cat1/Cat2 balls. My 1967 5000 has them and they were also available on the 4000.

And here are the interchangable balls.
They are available from most any tractor emporium - TSC , Fleet Farm, Farm and Fleet, most any dealer - even John Deere I suspect.
