Lift Arm removal help?

1945 2N - I need to R&R an upper lift arm on the 3 point hitch. It's stuck on the spline and I can't get a gear puller on it - no edge to grab. Currently soaking it with BP Blaster in hopes it will loosen up. I'd rather not do a top cover rebuild at this time. Have not tried heat... Any tricks to removing just the lift arm from the tractor? Thank you. -Karl

Usually involves heat/press/lots of work.........sure you can't do what you need without removal?

Thanks for the reply. I finally conquered it. Got just enough chisel wedged between for pressure, then beat the arm portion of the lift arm. Finally got it to move enough to get a pickle fork in there and eventually won. Quite a workout!

Reason for removal is I busted the arm itself today and need to replace it. Inside the fracture, there is rust about 3/8 to 1/2" down from the top edge. So it was hairline cracked for a while now and finally gave up today when I was pushing snow banks with a box blade.

Should be an easy fix at this point. This little 2N has been performing admirably all winter. I sure do love it.

ood deal. Sounds like you got lucky. Some of those removals end up with broken top cover castings.

One of mine is broke and welded by a previous owner, when I run across another arm I want to change it cuz its ugly. Has anyone every taken a cut off wheel and carefully cut towards the rock shaft enough to split the arm with a chisel and slip it off, its the way I envision doing it.

We all do it, but pushing stuff backwards is hard on
the 3 point links. They were designed for pulling.

I bet you can not find my weld on mine.

I V-ed it, welded it, and ground it, and painted it, no primer.

Mine also come on and off, with little persuasion.

Mine is repaired with a piece of heavy flat stock and the knuckle rigged to fit, like I said, ugly, yours I would be tickled with, probably would have never noticed the repair.

If the arms already trash and my air chisel will not drive it off then out comes the cut off wheel,,, it will not hurt anything if you go thru to the rock shaft,,, you need to saw thru enuff so you can spread it enuff to crack what the cut off wheel did not get...
