(quoted from post at 17:54:21 05/17/22) I was going to say when you started this adventure how I made my puck. 3 3/16 and 3 5/16 on one side and 3 1/4 on the other side. This will service all TO 20 Fergys and maybe more.
I think most folks said to just drive them out and being as I never tried driving sleeves out on anything I thought I must be doing thing the slowest and hardest way possible. Thanks for the followup.
Well,,,I finally got back to the Fergie liners after a few days of moping around of missing my Honey of 53 years,,,just cannot help myself,,but I'm doing better, I think.
I got the liners all cleaned up and had to make an extension for the round wire brush to use on the bottom O'Ring sealing area as I did not remove the crankshaft cause I DID NOT want to disturb the new rear main seal,,,,,Got all 4 of them nice and bright clean so the ORings should seal real good. Re-installed the liners and they slipped in like they belonged there,,!! I'll start the re-installation of the pistons in the Am.
I been doing a lot of thinking on the oil filter issue as I have not located any of the missing parts but do not really want to put the oil filter inside the oil pan. Cuss me out if you want to but I just want a filter on the outside of block as I am a stickler for regular oil filter changes.
I would like to ask if someone can post a cross section of the oil routing from pump thru the engine. From what I have read before, the oil to the filter is delivered to filter from the center main bearing. I do have the metal piece that bolts to the main bearing and has a tiny hole in the side of a tube that I think must of went inside the filter itself,,,??
My thought is to do one of two things,,,,
1. machine a bolt that screws into the center main bearing with a female thread on opposite end. Route a 3/8" tubing line from the new female fitting to a "NEW" drilled and tapped fitting on inside side of block. There are 4 places on the block that are just above the oil pan machined surface and those areas are thicker than rest of block material. I would drill all the way thru the block and tap both inside and outside of block for 3/8" tubing fittings. I would do this on the Right hand side of block for the available room there to mount a spin on filter assy.
OR,,# 2. install a "T" at the fitting on block where oil pressure gauge is tied to and pipe up to the new spin on filter assy
In both cases the outlet of either filter system would be piped to the valve cover where I have welded a removable fitting to be able to remove the valve cover without removing the long breather tube.
Also in either case I would like to modify a ford type oil pick-up suction screen to the pump.. Then weld up the big old hole in oil pan,,,,??
Any good words of wisdom??? TIA!!
