Live hydraulics WD-45?

Live but not independent. The foot clutch stops everything. AND...don't expect to be able to shift with the hand clutch. Wasn't made to do it. Those who can are lucky.

The wd had the hydraulic pump on the bell house or torque tube. It was a 4 piston type pump. The foot clutch stopped the shaft it rode on. Some put a pump on the front of crankshaft for loader use. Some put it on the belt pully too.

The hand clutch will allow you to stop while the implement catches up with a heavy spot but unless the oil is warm ( and even then maybe not) you won't be able to shift and will need the foot clutch to shift. A thin oil, 20, or tractor lube may help this but even so when cold the oil will bind the multi plate hand clutch which runs in the transmission oil.

The three tractors we had during my youth were the WD, WD45, and JD 2510 gas. The WD45 was the best winter starter, even though it was 6 volt and would barely crank over on a very cold day. All it had to do was grunt over and it would be running. Put it in gear and let the foot clutch out, and it would take right off even with the hand clutch disengaged!

I have hyd oil in my WD 45. I can shift it any time. But have to shift it PDQ. Can't dauttle around in neutral lol.
