Thanks everyone

You need the loader with the correct mounts to fit your tractor. So if you're looking at used look for one that came off an 84 or 85 series IH/CaseIH.

Either the 2250 or 2255 is an appropriate loader, but if you get one with mounts that fit a different style tractor, and you can't do the modifications, it really doesn't matter.

The 2250 were designed for the IH/CIH 74,84,85,95,32XX,42XX with 2 wheel drive and no cab but they have been installed on 2WD cab tractors by upgrading to a joy stick hydraulic control. They will not work on a 4WD tractor as the boom will interfere with the front wheels.
The 2255 was designed for both 2WD and 4WD tractors and there were options for joy stick hydraulic controls for cab tractors.

There were also Quicke loaders that were a good match 585/685 as neighbor had one on his 684 2WD with a cab.

Since it's 2wd (and if open station) a 2200 will also fit.

As far as I know all 2200 mounts are the same since they are one piece, 3cyl tractors used the shorter set of holes, the 4cyl used the longer set or holes.

2250 will fit all day too, but you need the right mounting brackets.

Same deal with 2255, they fit any 585 fine but were more for the 4wd models.

I would want a loader that fastened to the rear axle and at the front end of the tractor. The 2050 series A, will fit like that. I don't know about any of the others. Fastening to the rear axle keeps the strain at the axles instead of on the clutch housing like those that mount on the front end and clutch housing. Our 574 mounts at the rear axle and the front casting on the sides. Has worked well for the last 48 years. I would want the auxiliary pump to mount on the right side on that round hole where there is a plate over if I got another IH tractor with a loader so it had some hydraulic volume to it. The little puny 12 GPM pump is really slow going up and lifting things. That auxiliary pump is about 15or more GPM and would only be running your loader. The puny one inside is only about 12GPM and has 3 GPM sucked off for the steering, brakes and transmission lubrication. So now you're back to just 9 GPM volume for your loader. Also want to go to the power beyond if you want to use the tractor for other jobs needing hydraulics.

Yes 2050A will work and is likely strongest setup.

All the later IH OEM loaders for the 84/85 series dropped the axle mount, the mounting plates do bolt to the trans housing and front bolster and they need to come off the split the tractor for clutch job, I think that was IH's new plan, spread the load right to the trans/rear end and not make the clutch housing the break point. I have not personally seen any 2200/2250/2255 wearing 84 series and up break in two.

I have seen tractors broken in two from loaders mounted just on the front half.. definitely needed load transferred to rear axle on those.
