loader question

Does a newer year tractor like a 1975 Ford 4000 still need an external pump to work a loader properly?

Well to tell the truth that is a yes no or maybe. Just like say the 801 series if it had the optional valves on it the pump that was on them would work a loader but that option was few and far between and cost lots of $$ The newer ones have better hyd system and some came from the factory set up for a loader. Me I still prefer the external pump since that gives you more options and most of the time more GPM etc

A '75 4000 will run a loader with the tractor hydraulics, but it will be very slow. My personal opinion is that you would want at least a xx10 tractor with the double pumps, if you are going to run off the tractor hydraulics!

My friend has a late 70's 4000 with a Ford loader operating off of the tractor hyd pump that works fine loading/unloading rd bales. I was also amazed at how good the power steering worked with a bale of hay on the frt spear.

Well... a 4000 pumps about 5 gpm. Most loaders with any size wants 15 gpm to work with any degree of agility. You can run it with the internal pump. It will lift fine. It's just going to be dead slow unless it's a very small loader with small cylinders.
