Loader to heavy?

Is a Ford model 701 loader to heavy for an N series tractor? I just picked one up with 2 buckets for cheap. I'm in the market for purchasing another tractor to mount the loader on, and a backhoe.

I know most of you would suggest going with a thousand series or newer, but I prefer the look of the N's to the early Hundred series. Yes I know that most of those will need an aftermarket hydraulic setup to be able to run it.

I'm not familiar with the Ford 701 loader but I had a Wagner Jungle Gym loader on a 8N and it was a beast to steer. In my opinion,I would not have a loader on anything without power steering.HTH

Shoot I have a late 1950 8N with a loader and back hoe on it. It does the job just fine but is slow but still better then a shovel in your hands. Does not get run often but when you need a hole it will do the job for you

The 701 series loader was designed for the newer thousand series tractor with a higher pressure (and volume) pump. At best you will have a slow one way pump that will be a vexation to you. Mounting brackets will also be an issue.

Wes...the 701 will fit on an N(w/ the correct brackets)but kind of dwarfs the tractor. I have one mounted on a bigger tractor(MF165)that makes good use of the loader. It's a little small for the 165; however, it does fit over the sheet metal w/ some custom brackets to anchor it.

I think the 701 was originally built in the late 50's, so it was really sized for the hundred-series, but bracket kits were available to fit the N's or the Jub too.
