Loading car on dovetail trailer - Help

Neighbor boys Saturn car is disabled across the state of WI. I have a PJ deck over dovetail trailer I use for hauling my tractors. Is there any clever way to load that car on this trailer?

I can only think of some form of a 2x12" plank arrangement to teeter the rear of the car up once the front of the car is both on the front of the plank and above the flat portion of the deck. How does that sound for dangerous?

Would be far less dangerous to rent a car hauler trailer from U-haul.

winch it on it frame is to low when fronts are on flat two boards ahead rear tires and pull it rest way on no big deal.

In Ohio, U-Haul will only rent a car hauler with one of their trucks to pull it. $$ adds up quickly.

How about renting one in Wisconsin close to dead car? Would save hauling it a long way empty.

An assortment of planks and a come-a-long, pull it on and block it as needed, tie it down well with no planks under it if possible.

Call in a tilt deck tow truck, a good driver will have your trailer loaded up in a couple of minutes.
Used to hire them all the time to do on site loading and off loading.
The few dollars spent will be well worth the hassle it will save you.

If you have a floor jack you may be able to pull the car up as far as you can before it starts to drag then take a floor jack and jack the back end up just enough to clear
and pull the car forward as the jack should roll with the car just keep easing it a long and keep raising the back end.Or if you have a real long trailer take a loader tractor and raise the back end of the car off the ground and put it on the trailer.Ain't nothing that can't be loaded.

I hauled a small ford one time and once the front wheels were on the deck just use planks to roll the rear tires up and you will have no problems. when you take it off just reverse the program.

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK . i bought a land scape trailer with full width ramp that weighs a ton to raise and lower.( i use a winch to raise and lower ). i found out i can unhook the trailer from the truck drive a car up on the ramp and the front of the trailer comes up and the hump between the ramp and trailer flattens out.next slowly and carefully drive onto the trailer until the front of the trailer come down . reverse to unload....... works slick as chit .i bought the trailer to move my antique tractors . i know i will catch ell for posting this but so be it .

There are several hilarious YouTube videos of guys doing just what you describe. I suppose it ends well some of the time, but it sure goes south sometimes! Always funny.

Transitioning from the dovetail to the flat deck is the least of your worries.

You won't even get the front wheels on the ramps before the nose of the car bottoms out. It will take a bunch of blocks and planks to flatten out the approach to the ramps to even get the car up on the dovetail.

Backing the truck onto some 4" or so blocks would lower the back of the trailer, don't know if it would be enough to help. Extending the ramps with some 2x12s might also help.

To load a car onto my trailer, I use a set of 6"channel ramps that are at least eight feet long . The car will barely clear the nose and barely miss dragging the tail on the ground. It is a 16ft deck over trailer with a beaver tail. I am in Spooner if I can help.

I had to haul my daughter's '97 lumina 230 miles. All I've got is a deckover. I bit the bullet and rented a u-haul car trailer. Cost about $80 but it saved me a lot of grief.

Pal just rented a car toter, pulled it behind his f250, got it from uhaul. About 6 hours 1 way. Worked good for him.

Car dolly is ok but you will need a winch to get the car loaded.i Rigged a boat winch on a small post, and used a chain to anchor it to what ever I can.
