Loftness Snowblower Gearbox Help Needed

I purchased a used Loftness 7' Snow blower, Model: 30-S-24. Per the operating instructions, the gearbox fluid level should be kept half full of #90 gear lube. The problem is, from what I see, per the diagram, there is only a 1/8" pipe plug vent plug on the gearbox.

Is there any explanation as to how the gearbox fluid level is supposed to be checked? Or, how does one service the gearbox gear lube for drain and refill?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've already emailed Loftness and just waiting for an answer back (if there is one).

On many similar gearboxes the bolts that hold the bearing ''quills'' to the gearbox are ''through holes''.

If one of the bolts is at the desired oil level and the hole is ''through'' that bolt can be used as an oil check plug.

You'll have to check to find out if that's how your gearcase is made.

I don't have your machine, but I stick a wire down the vent pipe on my mower to check the oil level.

I agree that works just fine except if the vent/fill plug is directly over the gears, as many are.

In that case you could be open-minded and check out what I posted.
