I was gifted a 21 ton MTD splitter with a bad pump and a blown engine (other than that, it was fine...
)
Some time back, I bought a new pump for it and cobbled together an ancient, leaky 11HP B&S engine. In the process, I messed up the governor linkage on the engine and never got around to figuring it out as I didn't need a splitter anyway and had a half-baked notion of using it as a hydraulic bender. That never happened either, so decided to make a little more room in the barn by selling it. Wasn't willing to risk what little reputation I have selling it with the crappy Briggs on it.
Caught the Labor Day Sale at Horrible Fright and grabbed a 5.5 Predator for $185. It's intended to be a lawn mower engine, but I needed a vertical shaft, so...
First item was to make an adapter plate to accomodate the bolt pattern on the engine and also lift the engine about an inch seeing as the pump mounted on the bottom and needed the ground clearance.
The pump side of the plate needed stand-offs so the engine and pump shafts cleared each other. Meant to take a picture of the plate with the engine and pump mounted but got busy and forgot.
The engine is mounted with the pump installed. You can see the 1" spacers between the plates that I made out of some 7/8ths round stock with a 3/8ths hole bored through. Good excuse to play with the lathe. Also made use of the Vevor mag drill when mounting the adapter to the original engine mount. Bored the front two by measurement, sandwiched the plates together and bored the back two through both plates at the same time. No problem with hole alignment that way. Annular cutters make a really nice hole too.
Now I'm just waiting on the Lovejoy coupler and it'll be ready for a test drive.
