Log splitter wedge question

I am fixing up my old 20 ton splitter and the wedge is missing so I ordered one from northern. They were out of stock on the 6x8 so I ordered the 6x12. The question is , is there a such thing as too much surface area of the wedge contacting the log and working against me? or will it not make a difference.
Maybe a stupid question but would appreaciate an answer. thanks ... Jerry

It doesn't take a very tall wedge to start the split, but with a larger diameter log that has a twisted grain the log might want to ride up over a shorter wedge after the split is started.

The taller wedge will take a lot more oomph to get it started in the log but the log will tend to stay down better so there's a kind of a tradeoff between the two. Jim

As Fizerupper said it is a bit of a tradeoff, but should not be an iuuse with a 20 ton splitter. I personally like the taller wedges better.

With the tall wedge you can stack 2 or more easy
logs on top of each other.

Thanks for the replys, A lot of my wood is pretty twisted and full of knots so I may end up cutting the wedge down to size after i try it at full size for a bit, thanks again Jerry
