Long 610 Tractor

I just recently purchased a 4 wheel drive Long 610 tractor. I believe that tractor was built between 1982-1983. Does anyone know where I can find service/repair and operator manuals for this tractor. Thanks

Julia, you might try to google Farm Trac and see what you can find. That is the name that Long goes by now.

Local Farmtrac dealer said it's possible you can download manuals on pdf file.

I have a 610 2wd. Suggest you check hydraulic tranmission oil at dipstick on top of transmission case. If oil is milky, change oil, using standard tractor hydraulic oil. Transmission-hydraulic filter is on right side of engine area in the big return line. Don't know if yours has a replaceable filter or the metal strainer type. You should change either type if you just got the tractor.
Also change engine oil and filter, using Long filter. See my post on oil filter problems on the Today's tractors forum.

Pay attention to serial numbers, etc. when ordering manuals- Longs have gone through several manufacturers since they began, and tractors can vary quite a bit- I think yours was during the "Romanian period".

KEH,

Where would I find a Long filter? Is there a good place to find replacement parts and whatnot for these tractors? Thanks

Julia,

The issue with the Long filter is that it is installed in an upright position, allowing the oil in the filter to leak down when the engine is cut off. The Long filter has rubber flaps in the bottom of the filter that supposedly only open when the engine is running and the oil system is under pressure. In fact, when changing the oil it is best to fill the new filter with fresh oil, sacrificing the oil that spills until you can get the filter(hand tight, BTW). When you take the old filter off, you will see a standpipe that goes into the filter. Oil is pumped by the oil pump through the holes in the bottom filter which have the rubber flap over them, through the filter, and out the standpipe. The filter is a common size, AC pf2 as I recall, and it may well be that other filters have the rubber flap arrangement. If you can't get a long filter, a good auto parts store brand will be ok. Check for a Long dealer on the website.

Another bit of advice: The fuel filters should be changed once a year. The O rings at the top and bottom of the filter cartridge are not the same, so observe carefully. When changing the fuel filters, change only one at a time, filling the new filter with fuel by hand before installing. Don't completely tighten the filter, first pump the hand lever on the side of the fuel pump until fuel comes out around the filter. Then tighten the filter. The reason for this is to keep from running the fuel lines dry and having to pump fuel until you get more fuel in the lines, maybe loosening a line at an injector which is a pain. After tractor is cranked successfully, let it run a few minutes to be sure the lines are all full before changing the other filter. The primary filter gets most of the water and trash out and it not usually necessary to change the secondary filter as often.
If power steering gives trouble, first change the power steering filter inside the P. S. oil reservoir at the top left front of the motor.

610 was built in Romania at the UTB Fiat owned plant very similar to the Oliver/Fiat Italian built tractors. Import tractor in Canada owned by a nice fellow named Danny Bowes has about any part you'll ned for it.
