Looking At A Ford 6000

Looking at a 6000. Owner says it only has reverse. What is your best guess as to what is wrong with it. Also, best estimate to fix it. It is a diesel (recently rebuilt). Im going to look at it today. Thanks!

I love Select-O-Speed tractors . . . [b:07efc70ff5]but RUN, don't walk [/b:07efc70ff5] . . . from that one!

It likely has a broken mainshaft in that transmission.

Trouble with the 6000 is that nothing else fits in it but a sos, the smaller tractors all could be swapped out to a standard transmission, those your stuck with

Even then... as long as you go into the deal knowing there's going to be a lot of work, and if you know of/can find another SOS to swap in, AND the price is right...
There's a red one on the LaCrosse, WI craig'slist being parted out.

Here's the only 6000 I'd like to look at - it's the cover queen for NAPA's 2017 tractor calendar, and is also Miss November!

(quoted from post at 11:51:44 12/09/16) Its not main shaft thats bad,its the "B" carrier. Hub is busted.

I don't think one can say that for certain without a teardown. It's probable that either or both could be broken. That's why I said it "likely" has a broken mainshaft.

I thought that was a beautiful tractor when they came out. I still do. One farmer on the island I grew up on had one. It wasn't more than six months old the owner parked it out by main road. It was covered with oil and sat there till vines grew up on it. I asked dad about it every time we passed by it. He said it had hydraulic problems nobody could fix. I don't know if Ford came and got it or the finance company.
