Looking for an 8N Generator

Looking for a good generator for a sidemount 8N. The machine came with a gen for a 2N and I'm not sure it will work. I have part of the brackets for the sidemount unit but not all of them. Anyone have a source for one? The parts sites all seem to have the earlier style units but none that I've found thus far for the later sidemount. I could take the easy way out and go 12V but I like the look of the generator and don't have the stuff to do an alternator conversion either.

I scraped out two late 8n generators when I went to 12 volts. Generators worked good but could not keep voltage regulators working. Much happier with 12 volts.

I believe I have a rebuilt one from a 51 as well as the complete bracket assembly.

I will need to check as I cannot remember if I've sold it or not.

I have the mounting bracket and a rebuilt generator. Problem becomes shipping costs. Try to buy local. If there is a generator repair shop near you, they may have a generator available then you are only looking for the mount.

No so much concerned with cost as I am with quality. This is a project with my boys and I can't really place a price on the time we spend together.

The generator will ship in a Priority Mail box for around $15. Not sure about the mounting bracket.

Other than the "saddle" bracket for the generator, what parts are you missing? Do you have the bracket bolted to the block? Email is open.

Just checked my remaining Ford stores and found a rebuilt late model 8N generator but cannot find the mounting bracket.

I do not remember selling the bracket but, perhaps, I did, as it was not where I expected to find it. I have been slowly selling my vintage Ford stores.

I did find three rebuilt generators for 63-64 Ford tractors as well as a single NOS one.

I also found a few NOS SOS and Sherman combination parts that I had forgotten about.

Your 2N gen will set in the saddle of a side mount bracket... You can leave the 2N mount on are cut it off your call...

ven a 10-SI alternator will sit in that mount.

elds can be cut & ground away. Are you sure someone actually welded to the engine block??

They welded the alt bracket to the gen
bracket that bolts to the block, not to the
block itself

ell, in that case, simply get a bracket or make one to replace the welded one...just two bolts.

I spec they laid a piece of metal across the bracket where the gen mounted to the engine bracket I have in the past...
