looking for half track ideas

as i posted earlier i purchased some arps half tracks with none of the hardware that comes with it, still looking for that
however what are the thoughts of fabricating a set of bogie wheels and hardware that would be behind the tractor and not in front
of the back tire?

input from the pros, thanks

Three thoughts come to mind, first it will not want to turn very well, so you will need to build in a lot of adjustment for how much weight transfers to the front tires. Second your driver tires will be pushing the tractor ahead on the tracks with the bogies taking all the driving strain compared to when the drivers are in the rear, so the whole assembly will need to be stronger than when it is in front, and those little tires will need to be very strong, probably foam filled. Third, you will need to have a very long strong drawbar in order to pull anything, which will greatly restrict any drawbar load, and will take you back to my first point, and anything that you pull will be swinging waaaaaay to the outside on every corner.

I'm sure not a pro . . .

but some have turned the tracks into the equivalent of a set of chains for the rear wheels . . . under inflating the tires to get them on and then re-inflating.

That's what I was intending for some but I wasn't quick enough on the draw when they appeared for sale in my area.

The problem I see with mounting behind is that none of the tractor weight would be transferred to the tracks. When under the belly, they carried a lot of weight

I don't see the turning being a problem. Use the brakes and wheel in combination, slow or stop the track you're turning into.
My bombardier j5 is pure brake steering, really rips up the ground.
