I am looking at buying this disk . It is nothing fancy just looking for something for my old ferguson. Was told it was an old IH 8 foot pull tyle disk . I know it needs work but would be fine as is for what I need but curious what it actually is.

Around these part it is worth about half of what scrap brings at the scrap yard because man would have to haul it. I don,t where you are but drag disk went out 40 years ago, You find one like that hear probably get it for what ever you offer no one messes with them (Tennessee)

Thank you and under stand that but this will fit my needs just looking for some info on type ,modle or info like that. I am not looking for a best deal but thanks for the input.

OK sorry should not have asked was not needing verification if I should get it or not just looking for back ground on it if any one had any on it . I just like the older stuff not looking to turn a profit or even use it. . But thanks for the advice .

It looks like an IH disc. The real factor is the journals/bearings on the frame to gang axles. lifting it with a jack while watching th journals for looseness allows true judgement as to worth. If loaded and angled in medium soil it will be a load for a TO 20 or? Jim

Sorry must be the wrong place to ask or I am not explaining correctly . Sorry I will ask elsewhere. Thanks for the help I do love this sight and all the knowledge I get off of of it

SORRY for your miserable experience here!

Everyone has their own opinions about stuff and some want everyone to be in "lock step" with their ideas.

And lots is lost on the 'net vs. having a personal conversation with a knowledgeable neighbor.

If the disc is CHEAP and local, or there's delivery or you can haul it BUY IT and play around with it and see if it is something worth your time and $$$ to fix up, or if you want to move on to something "better".

NO need to justify your ultimate decision to anyone on here!

I agree with what wore out posted. What people type out may not be read and received by someone one the other end with the same tone or meaning. No need to get up tight about it, If you don’t want people’s opinions about its price or condition edit the part that you are buying it out of your opening post. Some people only view this forum a couple times a week maybe the ones that know what it is have not seen this yet you’re going to have to give this a little time. A lot of folks who were around when these were used are long gone. Getting some one to give you the exact brand and model may not be possible.
WHS IH info Here is a link to IHC information that is archived by the Wisconsin Historical Society, hopefully it takes you to page 181, which is a page out of the 1940 IH equipment catalog. We had a couple of the 9A disks harrows as shown on page 182. Although it is similar to what you are showing it is not the same. The 9A has more mechanism between the front and rear gangs and they connect with angle irons not heavy rods as is shown in your photo. We called them “drag disk” since they had no transport wheels. My uncle built a heavy two wheel trailer in high school in 50s. We used it to transport these disks and steel wheel grain drills between farms. At one point some of our rented farms were 10 miles away.
There are earlier catalogs in that WHS info a search just took me to that page because I knew the disks we had were No. 9 models. This link will take you to the first page of the IH catalog info for 1920. WHS 1920 IH equip. Catalog You are welcome to scroll through it page by page to see if earlier IH disks harrows look more like the one you show.
Also to add, if you going to use it you need to keep the “boxings” greased that the shafts ride in. Very likely that they have a lot of wear in them as Jim points out in reply 6.

Sorry was not meaning to sound crappy . I ment what I said about this being a great place . I knew after posting i should have worded better from the start and I could not find any way to edit or delete the post so I just thought I would try a different thread or something. My thoughts and typing do not come out right some times. But the info you provided was great . I did not know those resources were out there . I appreciate it .

Do you happen to be using a phone or tablet? If so your edit feature is accessed by the 3 dots to the right of Report at the bottom left when viewing a thread. It is only available for 24 hours after you author it.
It only give option to change the title ( looking for info )

I was thinking model 7A, but not sure. It has been a long time since Grandpa traded his for a Model 37 IHC wheel disc. Model 9A might be correct as there may have been some minor changes over a long production run.

Look on the spindles---hubs for an IH part number.
Usually the numbers don't wear too much on those
castings. The hitch doesn't look like any of our IH
drag discs for setting the section angles. Looks
like you need a new bar on the left side of the front
gang.
We use these discs for the gardens & to seed small
patches of seeding. You don't have to put them in
the shed when you're done with them.

You worded your post just fine. I understood what you were asking for. That does not stop people from just spouting off whatever comes to mind.

The worst thing you can do is "fight" or try to direct the course of the conversation. Just go with the flow. If they didn't answer your question, move on to the next response.

What they are trying to tell you, in a round about way, is that it really doesn't matter who made it. It's in extremely bad shape, and not worth fixing even if you did know who made it or what model it is. Any parts will quickly exceed the value of the repaired implement. It would have to truly be a labor of love to bring it back to any kind of long-term usable condition. Just buy it (but don't pay too much) and use it until it falls apart, then look for another one. Unfortunately I don't know who made your disk either.

Don't worry about this whole thing. People forgive and forget. As long as you don't make a habit out of being "difficult" that is.
