I am looking at buying this disk . It is nothing fancy just looking for something for my old ferguson. Was told it was an old IH 8 foot pull tyle disk . I know it needs work but would be fine as is for what I need but curious what it actually is. View attachment 103391View attachment 103392

Why not put us all out of our misery and let us know how much the seller is asking for it? That would be "the rest of the story" and it could be put to bed.

What model is your Ferguson? A 6 foot disc might be a better match.

ih Implements are built with heavy duty material . I don’t see any welded repairs in the photo, the fact that there’s still paint on most of the frame is positive. Check the pitch adjustments for loose or broken parts. depending on the time it’s used and soil type, moisture, it appears to be a good choice from photo .

I have no idea who made it so I'm no help to you there either.

That said if you can get it cheap, which is a must IMO, and it will work for what you want it to do I'd say you can't go wrong. Deal with whatever comes up later.

I too think your Fergie will be underpowered for that unless you're only scratching the surface an inch or two deep.

Personally, if the price was say 100 bucks, I'd look at that 100 dollar bill a long time before I'd turn it loose on that piece of equipment.

The only thing I would add to this is; by asking the make you are hinting at getting parts for it. Doing that opens a lot of doors, whether you intended it to or not.

Looks like it could be an IH. Blades are in pretty rough shape. I wouldn’t give to much for it. Just my two cents

Its not a JD drag. Neighbor and I both had one. They were good for smoothing out already worked soil and I liked drag because on multiangled acreage like I have, they just followed you around like a good little puppy....can't see that your's pivots but the two gangs on the JD followed each other around corners....really neat on smaller garden plots.
Those brackets on top are for weights if you haven't figured that out. If you expect that "unknown" do do any kind of soil prep., you need to make use of those weight brackets.....otherwise it will just bounce across the ground.

Be a little glad that a "show-dude" type did not show you a photo of the Chinese Roto-tiller they use. Anyway, I can only add that I have a very similar one. Pulls well behind a TO 20 with weighted and good tires. Disks are probably available , Tractor Supply generics. Change greases fittings as reqd. and flush the bearings lots! They can do a fine job after plowing. Probably have 8-10 possible angles to choose from, I run a trip-rope to my rear work light to adjust(back-up) from seat. Last owner should have towed it on to pallets so earth didn't eat up the disks. Lots of "scrap your way to greatness" types about...... Good luck, I'd take a chance if handy.... Guess not just Jail-Bait little girls have, and use, "Smarty Phones" nowadays! Easy to be rude from a padded basement seat.

It is android but I use chrome. Once you tap on the 3 dots, you will get a prompt to edit and you can edit the content of your post. To edit the subject line is a different location.

Just be careful buying something like a disc that “needs work”. You can sink a lot of money into that disc before you know it, probably more money that you could have bought one that was already ready to go.

Look on the spindles---hubs for an IH part number.
Usually the numbers don't wear too much on those
castings. The hitch doesn't look like any of our IH
drag discs for setting the section angles. Looks
like you need a new bar on the left side of the front
gang.
We use these discs for the gardens & to seed small
patches of seeding. You don't have to put them in
the shed when you're done with them.

You worded your post just fine. I understood what you were asking for. That does not stop people from just spouting off whatever comes to mind.

The worst thing you can do is "fight" or try to direct the course of the conversation. Just go with the flow. If they didn't answer your question, move on to the next response.

What they are trying to tell you, in a round about way, is that it really doesn't matter who made it. It's in extremely bad shape, and not worth fixing even if you did know who made it or what model it is. Any parts will quickly exceed the value of the repaired implement. It would have to truly be a labor of love to bring it back to any kind of long-term usable condition. Just buy it (but don't pay too much) and use it until it falls apart, then look for another one. Unfortunately I don't know who made your disk either.

Don't worry about this whole thing. People forgive and forget. As long as you don't make a habit out of being "difficult" that is.

Thanks , I did get it knowing it is in very rough shape but only have about an acre to rough up this spring to sow some clover . I figured for the price I could get it back in scrap or most of it any way and the fact it will probably set for a couple years or used very very little. I did not want to buy something good just to grow up with weeds . I am just always interested in the older equipment and try to learn what I can abut them just an old thing I do . I'm not up on those older discs either, but based on the scrapers and what I can see of the spools it may be a case disc. Look at the castings for a case eagle, or a part number, either will tell what brand it is. Also a better pic of the hitch will help. Those pics don't show the whole thing.
