Like the title says, I would like some experienced suggestions as to where to purchase sheet metal for the early JD 4020. After doing some looking myself, I find the availability and pricing is all over the place. there must be some here that has done enough of this to have determined the better goto places to get what is there to be had at reasonable prices.

are u talking about the body panels, or actual sheets of metal ? if needing body panels , go to a tractor wrecker.

When you are talking about used, original parts, that is the nature of things. Because it's no longer being mass produced, there is no "set market" for this kind of stuff, no reliable steady supply, no one person that's always going to have what you need, no "Obsolete Tractor Parts Walmart" where you can find what you need any time any day of the week no matter what, and always be the cheapest price.

One guy might have what you need today, but didn't have it yesterday and won't have it tomorrow. It's a matter of finding the place that has what you need, and if you don't like their price, keep looking.

Even if people have "go to" places, what good are they to you if they're 1000's of miles away? Shipping something like a 4020 hood would cost a fortune, and the odds of it arriving undamaged are slim. You'd be better off paying more at the local source where you can lay eyes on the parts and handle them yourself so you guarantee they won't get drop-kicked in shipment.

If you're talking about aftermarket reproduction parts, they are all the same no matter who you buy from. It's up to you to decide what's important. You can go with the cheapest price but you might be giving up customer service.
