It started out brand new in waverly towa it was sold to a privite party there no serial number so if spier farm name dunkerton town or readlyn I was told that was around mason city and farm 80 acers for years then was sold Then few year back dad recall sombody came up to him that was west de monies Iowa they trace threw john deere credit. so if someone knows anything so i keep chaseing a dream my number 6082254222

So you think it will have "Spier farms" or something like that on the tractor? And the last known location was somewhere west of Des Moines? There sure were a lot of 4020 tractors. I don't know what can be done through John Deere credit but have you checked with a dealer?

I check john deere credit they couldnt help me
I also check the dealer even on the old phone number records dont go back that far there was a merger and no farm name on tractor I hoping sombody could say i have that tractor I all i remember it beat my uncle internation and we had bragging right for year.

Hello Spier, welcome to YT. Unfortunately, without the serial number “the dream” is about all you have. Often when folks come here in a “search” like this it is suggested to purchase a tractor that has some of the features that you remember about the “real” tractor. Then make it a “tribute” tractor to your dad. There were 28,322 built in 1967 so the “needle in the haystack” is probably hid pretty good and with no SN you don’t have much to go on. Even if you had the serial number the find is a pretty unlikely task to complete. What helps there sometimes is if it has been run through an auction and the SN is on record with the auction service.

Threads like this one should be the impetus for the very young to go out and look at every family tractor and piece of equipment with the purpose of writing down serial numbers and telltale wear. You never know when the day will come when life will go sideways where there is an important death or financial calamity forcing a sale of everything. Today a young person may not care in the least but 20 years from now they may want to reconnect with family history. Just about every cell phone has a camera to help with documenting equipment appearance. Today young people have websites such as this one to get the idea to think about the future which was not always the case. When I was school age during the 1970's nobody was taking the view in terms of sentimentality to think about what might come tomorrow. Most of the equipment from then is still here but not all of it and what is not here is most likely lost forever. I wish I had one of dad's old silage wagons and if it still exists I would have no idea where to look. Probably on some hill farm 50 miles south of here if still around.

Have a JD Dealer run that ser# for warranty repair. We did bunches of starter bypass covers around early 1990's. It was a PIP so the starter solenoid could not be bypassed with a screw driver. Long shot, but.................

Not real sure what you're going to do if you find it if the current owner doesn't want to sell it. None of mine are for sale unless somebody has some really deep pockets. I wouldn't give up a tractor that I know to go out and replace it with one that I don't.

I’ve heard some good story’s about these searches . A car restoration an owner here had a 65 mustang come into his shop and the mustang was originally purchased by his mother. He got it back ! Don’t lose hope !

I suggest asking anyone you can locate that might have worked on your tractor in the past. They might have made some notes about your tractor in there logs . Like we change the water pump and Sid the mechanic use to make a mark on it to ID it that he changed it July 1975 for example.

That would take quite the foresight for someone that young. There's just no attachment for 99% of folks at young ages, including us when we were young. I would argue that as the older generation, the impetus is on us for them, but generally even I'm not that sentimental. I'd rather have the cash after selling whatever it is and put it the money to work as something else. So I guess I'm part of the problem too.
