Well i feel not so smart I can not seem to find the keys to my 48 front mount any way to get a key without waiting for one to be shipped out with a new key switch? or bypass it untill i can get a switch?

like the others said.
get a nice piece of wire about 6-8" long - place aligator clips on the ends of them.

take a pocket knife and scrape a little insulation off the two wires on the back of the switch. place the clip on one wire - then the other......try to make it so you can "unhook" one quickly, for safety reasons.

Or you can do as I did, and just buy a toggle switch and replace the key switch. Of course that depends on if you have anyone around you do not want to be able to start your tractor without your permission. The key switch died probably 30 years ago on mine and has had a toggle switch on it since. No worries on finding the key, and if someone wanted to start it badly enough, it is not hard to bypass and start anyhow.

Most replacement switches use the same generic key,,, I have only ran into 3 different keys used...

I am a toggle man myself but can see were a key would be useful... I keep a disc behind my uncles N,,, last time I used it the governor broke,,, its un governed and will run away from ya,,, he came down a few days ago and ask if I knew were the key was,,, I told him I had it cuzz the gov. was broke and did not want it ran till I could fix it... A N will get'er done with out a gov....

Just run two wires from the back of the key switch. Twist them together to run then pull apart to stop. No big deal.

Before you lose the keys again try this.Have 2 spare keys made at the local hardware store. My store gives me 2 plastic key fobs,I mark them ford tractor, hang them up and show my wife where I keep them. She has a much better memory than I.My ignition switch wont let the key fall out when the switch is turned on.No twisted wires or toggle switch that a kid can turn on and cook your coil or start the tractor and run over his friend. We grow too soon old and too late smart.

I replaced the toggle on my 8N with a universal ignition switch on my 8N because of small grand kids. Just wired it to the Batt and Ign terminals. Then I got 2 1/64 scale toy tractors and made those my key rings.

Kinda hard not to find them and they are on pegs up to high for kids to get at em.

Maybe I'm dating myself here -
But I could hotwire a car by jumping the ignition switch when I was 14.
Brother was off in the Army and I drove his 58 Chevy frequently.
