low oil pressure

i have a 1946 allis chalmers WC that has low oil pressure and i cant figure it out. it idles just fine but when the engine is under a load like going up a hill in any gear or taking off from a stop it spits and sputters i dont know why its doing that or how to fix it.

Low oil pressure and you sputtering problems most likely are not caused by the same things. The Allis tractor as low pressure system and you need to run the correct oil filter or your pressure will not be enough for that engine. One filter that works well is the Wix 57011 but even then 5-15 PSI is normal. As for your spitting and sputtering problems you may have your carb set to lean or a governor problem or even weak spark

OLD...respectfully...would you kindly re-check that WIX number? It has been nearly 20 years since I worked behind sales counter, but I remember WIX oil filter numbers being 5 ONE xxx...NOT the 5 SEVEN xxx you indicated above. Things can always change, though.

FWIW, NAPA filter numbers frequently are the same as WIX if you leave off the FIRST digit. Ex: WIX 51515 would be NAPA 1515.

ive changed the oil filter abput a month ago its a possibility that could be causiing it but it did that once before last winter then it ran normal and ran normal after i changed the oil and filter but it sputters when i take off and even a little bit when im driving it kinda sounds a little like a john deere B

pit & sputter AND your oil pressure are completely unrelated. :!:

Do not need to recheck that Wix number because I know 1000% that it is correct. Yep BTDT and I keep the box here at my desk so I know it is the right number and have that filter on my W Speed Patrol my C my WD45 so yep the Wix 57011 is in fact the correct filter to get the oil pressure where it should be

Ok but again not oil pressure and the way it runs are not the same problem. Could be as simple as needing a turn up or fouled plugs or a carb problem but with out doing some real trouble shooting hard to tell. Me I have worked on engine for so long I can pretty much tell what one needs from what it sounds like but sadly my hearing is going down hill so in a few years I may not be able to do that any more

OLD...I learned something NEW today!! I'm purely speculating now...guess WIX ran out of 51xxx numbers and added/started the 57xxx series.

WIX does make a fine filter!!

That number is one they did because of the Allis tractors the the oil pressure problems with a filter that did not have back pressure. Like I said I keep the empty box on my desk so I do not have to remember the number and some how as I get older to remember things is getting harder and harder to do lol

For the one asking if a Fram element would work:
If you would ever cut a Fram filter apart, and
compare it to others...you'd never use a Fram
anymore!
