LP tractors

I think I've asked questions about lp tractors on here before, but would like to see some opinions on them. I know that a lot of people hate them, but a lot of people love them too. What I'd like to know is what causes people to not like them. Are they any more dangerous to run than any other tractor?

People are afraid of them because they never were around them. I grew up on a 60 LP and the guy I worked for had a B he converted to LP. He even put his 8N on LP. :? I restored a 630 LP. I have seen 2-3 gas tractors burn in my life but never a LP.

I don't have a tractor on propane but I had a pickup. What I loved was the savings in money over gasoline or diesel.

Hi Clint,
When I was a teen ager, my dad converted every thing to propane, even my mom's car. Then he bought a factory built JD 60 and Ford 860.
I like the clean burning fuel. I think an old LP tractor will be in much better shape than gas or diesel with the same hours.
I have a JD 70lp and a 630lp

LP tractors. Probably the single technical item that causes the most wide eyed, white knuckled terror in farmers.
Electrical trouble shooting comes in at a close second.

I agree with CLW. They are no big deal if you've been around them.

I was operating Dad's 4020 LPs by myself by 3rd grade and refueling them by myself by 5th grade.

LP isn't any more dangerous than a disk plow or getting run over by a tractor (for example)... But everyone is familiar with those things, so there is no "mystery" there...

I think the issue with LP is just unfamiliarity. My dad maintained a fleet of LP vehicles for the LP delivery company when I was young. It did appear that good spark was more critical than on a gas engine, other than that no issues.

I have one 630 LP that is nearly finished I am going to let go..Same air-stack no fenders..

I am in Central Ohio if someone is interested..

Unfamiliarity is the word here. I grew up around them and my dad also converted every rolling thing to LP, all the trucks and cars on our place, it was real cheap to buy then. Now? not so much. And much harder to steal too. LP does not go stale like gasolene and cranks good, hot or cold. I have never had to pay any more particular attention to spark than any other fuel/spark equipment, it just has to spark. And gasolene leaks are just as dangerous as LP leaks. You gotta be careful around all the fuels....diesel is way more forgiving of spills and leaks. I love my LP tractors. Paul

Growing up we had a 60lp, then a 4020 powershift lp, and a 3020 lp. I also have a 88 F350 LP.

This last winter the packing in a valve failed, I lost all the LP out of a tank.

I personally like LP, but I think you loose some hp and effecency. If a diesel is rated at 94hp the lp will be maybe 10 hp less?

I agree with some of the other post, it seems like you have to have a good hot spark.

A lp engine should last alot longer, it burns cleaner, less carbon. The motor oil stays clean along time.

I tried to put my 96 F350 on Lp, but the cost to convert was way to high.

If I could put everything (with a spark) on lp (CHEAP) I'd do it.

I have 4 lps 3 720 and a 730 all GOOD tractors. I can get fuel now till the mid june for 1.65? cents from my dealer.I am going to fill every tank on the place next week. Gas war.

We have a 430WLP, 3- 630LP's, 730Lp, 4- 70Lp's G,B on Lp, 4010 Lp, 4020 Lp, and when I was a kid I had a motorscooter on Lp, all the cars, pickups and grain trucks OnLp back in the 70's
