Lucknow snow blowers

I just bought an 80" Lucknow dual auger snow blower. Does anyone have any experience with these?

We will be using in on either a Case 830 or a Kioti dk65s

I had a Lucknow 7 foot single auger The blower was a good built blower. My brother had another brand with a double auger. WE both had the same two problems. The reverse ground speed can be faster than blower can eat up the snow. If snow is hard packed you can have trouble getting traction to push blower into the snow.

I bought a new Lucknow blower (single auger) over 30 years ago and we are still using it. I had all the gears and chains replaced about 15 years ago, that blower has moved a mountain of snow. When the other poster was talking about ground speed , that is a tractor issue , not related to the blower. We ran it on a 584, low range in deep snow and four foot drifts could put that tractor on its knees ! LOL

My Lucknow blower 8 foot single auger is almost 40 years old, most years it saw
about 100 hours of use. Couple of bearings total repairs. They were built in
Lucknow, Ontario, the heart of the snowbelt, formerly Helm Welding. Unfortunately,
the business is winding down, used to employ about 40. They built a pile of
snowblower, gravity bins, running gears and feed mixers, sold around the world, all
quality machines. You got a good one.

I just bought the Kioti and one of the reasons is its slow reverse speed. 0.2 mph in 1 low at PTO rpm! The cas is @2.2 mph in reverse and so that tractor will be the back up.

I am glad to hear this is a decent brand blower as it was advertised as an "Astron" and I couldn t find info on it before I identified it as a Lucknow.

Don't know brand but have see 8' 2 auger blowers tryimg to back into snow on a 150+ HP front wheel assist Deere have all 4 wheels spinning trying to push into the snow in my driveway.

I had the same snow blower for nearly 30 years. I
liked the blower, but like everything else, if you use
a thing enough, you can wear it out. And I used the
heck out of my snowblower. It got to the point that I
was tired of changing bearings, and sprockets and
chains. So I dealt it in on a new blower. I had best
results using a 4wd tractor on the blower, as we
have some hills to deal with. Your area and depth of
snow will be a big factor in your satisfaction using
your blower, and the tractor that powers it. A 830
Case would be on its knees with that blower on my
jobs. Drifted snow 2-3 feet deep will be next to
impossible, as your tractor will reverse too fast, and
you will be on the clutch all the time. But 6 inches of
fresh snow, on a level driveway, should work like a
dream. Snow blowers do leave a bit of snow
behind, and to get a driveway bare, after I blow the
snow, I scrape the driveway down with the loader
bucket. Then go back with the blower to get rid of
the snow the loader scraped up. How you get good
service from your Lucknow, they are a good blower.

Neighbor has an older Lucknow and has had good service with it. I used to use dad's JD/McKee snow blower, but like this BerVac front mount MUCH better. No more sore neck!

Once the blower and auger(s) are full of snow . Backing further and faster into the snow just over stresses the auger drives and wastes power .
The unit is supposed to blow snow not push snow.
As previously stated the primary problem is a tractor with a too fast reverse and a tool of an operator who isn t bright enough to push the clutch pedal . Or only blow a 2 or 3 foot wide pass at a time .

I thought that Art Helm Welding and Lucknow were two different entities ?
I haven t looked real close while driving by but I thought there were still new mixer wagons etc in the yard at Lucknow ?

Helm Welding became Lucknow Welding, same spot same employees, different name.
There are only a couple of vehicles in the parking lot for the last several months,
not like the 20 or30 that used to be there.....rumors abound.

Turns out its an ?Astron 80?. Not a Lucknow. Looks almost identical. Can?t find any info on Astron. The splined coupling at the gearbox to shaft
connection is cracked, badly worn and the splines may be too. Haven?t got it apart yet. Might have to make a new coupling and add a bearing to
support the shaft. If the splines on the gearbox shaft are worn ill just sell it to someone who wants a project.

I was about to do a quick weld and put it to work when the wire feed acted up. I traded fo a stick welder.

That snowblower was manufactured by Astron in Elmira Ontario which was designed by my dad. I probably made a bunch of the parts in that blower.

Astron is still in business and may have parts. Their phone is 519-669-3945.
