M brake seal

Do you have to drain any of the gear oil to change the Farmall M brake seal?

Also what is the best way to remove the brake band? Mine is a little stubborn...

Thanks

I hope somebody will answer who knows about the M. I don't, but I'll try to help based on my H.
No, I did not have to remove any gear oil. The fill level is below the brake level.
And once everything is off, as I recall my brake band just slipped right off. Sorry, maybe it's just rusted on.
To me, the trick was installing the new seals. I damaged a few, finally found I had to use a piece of PVC pipe fitting of the exact diameter, to tap-tap-tap in the new seal.
To adjust them, I first undid the locknut on the bottom of the drum, ran up the square-head screw til it touched, then backed off 1/2 turn, then snugged up the locknut. Then adjusted the clevis and brake rod.
If the M is different from the H, sorry.
