M cooling question

Hi all,

I worked my 1950 M this weekend and still the temp does not come up above 130 on my brand new gauge. What does this mean to me, is my thermostat stuck open? The manual <ya I bought one> says that I should run between 190 and 230 if I read that correctly. Any suggestions and also where to get a new Thermostat if it"s stuck open or something.

Andy, it's stuck open or missing. My IH 240 U would not even register on a new gauge. I ordered a 170 degree thermostat and it get's to 180 and works fine. David.

I ran my 51 M 15 mile to town pulling an 18 foot trailer with an A on it. It was in the 60's and down hill (600 ft ) to town and it never got to more than the C on cool. On the way back up hill it almost got to run and the oil pressure droped 10 lbs because of the added heat. I seem to take a lot to get them very warm. It was 90 degrees on the way back

M's run very cool to start with unless you have a hard steady pull on them such as plowing, disking or some other heavy steady work. Both my M's run around 110 just working light. Will go to around 190 with a 3 bottom plow or 10 foot disk. Sometimes the 15 foot mower will heat it up if in thick stuff.

So where can I get one of these? Do they have them at O'Reilly's etc? I really appreciate all the help and your patience all.

Thanks, Andy
