We have a 1950 M at work that we move nurse tanks with.It does'nt have power steering but the tractor seems to steer very hard.I have a 1941 M at home and it steers much easier. Is there some adjustment in the gear box? The steering shaft is free. Thanks Jeff

at the very bottom of the steering pedestal in the lower bolster is a bearing. if its shot, it will be a bugger to steer. check to see if there is grease in the upper bolster, and there is a grease zerk in the center of the bolster, also a lower one (i think).

Jack up the front end and try the steering. Problem may be at the spindle end of the axle. That's what I found with mine.

there is also another bearing at the very end of the steering shaft at the top of the bolster. you need to remove the grille, then you will see a big pipe plug. unscrew the pipe plug and the bearing will be in there. to get the shaft out, drive the roll pin out of the shaft up by the gauges, then the shaft will unscrew out of the housing.
