I may have an opportunity to buy this M . Approximate value if motor not locked up? Tires are dry rotted and front grill bent . Guy used it to bush hog one day and parked it . He came back next day and it would not start . Been sitting several years but has tarp over the exhaust . Wants me to make an offer .

Don't bother with it. After 25 years of seeing these the red flags are too many to ignore. To get it running will cost way more than it's worth. There are so many others out there that are running and driving for 1k or less. Keep looking.

Fully agree. A few years ago I watched a nice-looking, good-running M with decent tires sell for less than $1000 at a local auction. It would cost a lot more than that to get the one pictured into usable shape.

It depends what you are looking for. If you want cheap, easy to restore tractor, follow the advice below.
However, if you want a challenge that you will learn a lot about an M, go for it!
Easy restorations teach you very little and give little satisfaction. This propane M will be challenge and will give you great satisfaction when you drive it for the first time.

Thanks for all replies. Ive always wanted a letter series to go with my utilities but Ill probably pass on this one I guess. Time is limited so probably more project than I need.

Depends on what you consider "proper shape."

Some guys don't think a tractor is fit for the field unless it has a freshly overhauled engine, every bearing, seal, and gasket replaced in the drivetrain, new tires and rims all the way around, and a fresh high-dollar paint job.

Most guys would get that tractor running and tuned up, change the oil, perform some minor repairs, make sure the tires hold air, and put it right to work.
