M5 Diesel

I just recently overhauled my M5 Diesel. It had no more than 4 hrs on the overhaul and the motor locked up. Put new pistons main and rod bearings in it. I took the main caps off and the main bearings have some scars in them also took the rods loose and those bearing dont look to bad. But the Crank is still locked and i can"t figure out why. It had 30 psi of oil pressure while running. While driving it around the TA worked fine. At this point im stumped idk what to do. Any ideas would be appreciated. Dumped quite a bit of money in this project to just put it out in the weeds.

Have you looked in the timing gear case ?

No I havent yet. I also pushed the cluth and tried to turn it also nothing. Can the Injector pump lock up?

Did it lock up while running or after it was shut off and you tried to start it? The reason Im asking is if possibly something happened with the starter? (broke or the drive locked up on the ring gear?)

1st , if you are going to dump it in the weeds give me a call and i"ll pick it up. (-;
Now to the problem. I"ll ASSUME it won"t start/turn - didn"t lock up running. And that you checked that the pistons are free as you have the rods loose. Things to check.
1) pull the starter off. Try to turn it in direction of rotation with a bar. If that doesn"t work try to turn it backwards (not very far, injection pumps can be broken that way).
2) Pull the valve cover. Check to see each valve will go down (tap with a hammer). They can stick closed as well as open.
3) Pull the water pump, will it turn by hand?
4) Pull the injection pump, will it turn by hand?
Let us know what you find? Several other things could of gone wrong but thats a good start.

I would be careful around the injector pump. You dont want to force it and break the shaft.

Of course, if you did, you would be in my boat and that would drive up the demand for inj. pumps!

Maybe try taking the belt off and turning it over?

Check the hydraulic pump and pto drive shaft to make sure it turns. I rebuilt a 602 engine for a friend, put it it the machine and it wouldnt turn over. Found that the rear support bearings for the hyd pump/pto drive shaft were locked up.

I also noticed when I ran it the pto as well as the 3 point wouldnt work. Where is the hydraulic pump on this machine? And yes it quit while running at an idle. but the last 2 minutes or so it ran it sounded like the engine was pulling pretty hard.

My M5-D the hydraulic pump is on the back end of the tractor above the pto shaft. Just like a M602 or M670.

Today I took the hydraulic pump off and the pto shaft turns. What next something on the engine?
