magneto check

How do you check a magnito for spark? I have a Prestolite 4 nipple with the # XH 3001 that I want to pass on to a good home But i don't know if it works.

A quick and dirty way to check them, is clamp the mag in your vice, install a plug wire in the cap, hold the other end of the spark plug wire close to the vice and turn the impulse coupling.

Clamp only on the flange !! Never squeeze the case.

I hold the mag with the cap in my left hand, covering all posts, turn the drive with my right. Should have more than a tingle in the left hand if it has good spark.
