magneto needs testing

One thing, whoever you ship it to, be sure to pack it good and tight inside the box, especially around the cap end. Styrofoam peanuts won't work, they shift around too much in travel. It's easy for the cap to get broken in shipping. We use wadded up newspaper a lot.

LOL.. first mag I ever worked on wouldn't spark in the tractor.. yanked it off, and while holding it in one hand and reading the owners manual for the tractor, following it step by step.. impulse clicked.. mag went to the floor.. and I walked around for 20 minutes shaking my tingling hand..

The mag sparked from then on.. don't know why it didn't on the tractor before then still though.. And I guess I'm really lucky when I dropped the mag it didn't bust when it hit the floor.. I guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

I know, my comment isn't of much help.. just wanted to share my experience..

Have you cleaned the points? Try that then see if you have fire to your plugs. Your magnets may be getting weak from age. If you decide to pull the mag make sure you make a note where the rotor is pointing, better yet make a sketch. Then DON'T move the engine. Then when your mag is repaired you point the rotor to the same spot shown on your sketch and install it. Then your engine should start. Hal
