Mainshaft seals

So not too long ago the advice I got was to replace the paper gaskets on the counter shaft and maybe the mainshaft because of a minor leak just in front of the trans drain. I was taking the tractor apart for restoration anyway so I removed the engine over the weekend and I ordered the gaskets and also the mainshaft seal because it appeared the leak may have been from the seal also. Does anyone have any advice on changing the oil seal. Is that hard to remove? I have a seal driver kit to install. Just wondering. I always get helpful tips and thought I would ask before I try it.

Thanks,
Cubby

The easiest way I've found to remove those seals is with a small hooked prybar like this one.

Insert the end of the hook into one side of the seal.

Pull back on the bar and it pops right out.

Install the seal with the open lip toward the oil.

Use a suitable driver to seat the seal in it's bore.

Hey, Thanks. I did not realize I would get the whole flange out of the trans to work it on the bench. That looks great. I think I have the same seal drive you show there.
Thanks for the advice and going to the trouble of posting the great pictures.
I will do this tonight.

Last night I changed the seal and gaskets (both main and countershaft) and the job went very smooth.

Thanks for the help,
